What you'll study

  • Master the principles of business management and how to implement them to address real world challenges

Entry requirements

We take into consideration several factors when assessing your application. The standard entry requirements are:

  • A minimum of 104 UCAS tariff points; and

  • Four GCSEs at Grade 4/5 or above, which must include English language and mathematics.

If you do not meet these requirements but have other qualifications or work experience, get in touch so we can review your options.  

Please note: This course is not eligible for a Student visa. Unfortunately, international students requiring visa sponsorship will not be able to enrol on this programme.

Course structure

When you enrol on CertHE Business you’ll study two core modules, Digital Workplace and Career Skills Lab, before choosing one of four specialist pathways aligned to your career goals.
Digital specialism CertHE Business

Looking to prepare for a career in digital business? With this pathway you’ll build core knowledge in digital business, alongside practical insights into how digital businesses operate in the real world. You’ll also gain confidence in using digital tools and technologies that support and elevate modern business practices.

Digital Workplace (30 credits)
With data and digital tools taking precedent in our daily and professional lives, you’ll learn these key skills with core concepts covering data, digital tools and the drive of digital transformation. You’ll learn to analyse and interpret data and megatrends to hone your problem-solving and decision-making skills, as well as reviewing data and digital tracking as meaningful ways to drive business growth in the digital age, with a firm focus on professional ‘netiquette’.

Career Skills Lab (30 credits)
Designed to provide you with essential skills to excel in the workplace, this module supports learners from varied national and academic backgrounds. Split into three blocks, you’ll first explore approaches to finding and using information in the modern workplace and how to assess its credibility and consider its context. In the second block you’ll learn to write and communicate effectively with others, while understanding the importance of presentation and emotional intelligence in building professional relationships. Finally, you’ll look at planning your future career through skills such as CV and cover letter writing as well as interview techniques.

Next Generation Leadership (30 credits)
Gain the essential leadership skills required to navigate the complexities of modern organisations. You’ll apply contemporary leadership principles in real-world scenarios, enhancing your ability to lead effectively in a range of environments and organisational structures. The module also explores the role of people, culture, and data in decision-making, emphasises sustainability, ethics, and the integration of emerging technologies, preparing you to become a forward-thinking leader.

Influential Marketing (30 credits)
With the Influential Marketing module, you’ll learn to strategically plan and deliver engaging digital campaigns tailored to modern audiences, using contemporary marketing frameworks such as SOSTAC (Situation analysis, Objectives, Strategy, Tactics, Action, Control), you’ll explore market research, audience segmentation, branding, social media strategies, content creation, and data-driven decision-making.

Finance and Law specialism CertHE Business

Ideal for those looking to specialise in the financial and legal side of business, this pathway provides you with a clear understanding of financial and legal considerations, alongside practical insights into how finance and legal considerations impact business decisions and processes. You’ll also gain the confidence to utilise digital tools and technologies that support modern business practices.

Finance Essentials (30 credits)
Explore the principles and practices that underpin financial decision-making in organisations, with a particular focus on understanding and interpreting financial reports. You’ll learn how to read, analyse, and apply key financial documents such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, and build the confidence to engage with financial data and contribute meaningfully to business success. 

Law Essentials (30 credits)
After exploring the foundations of law, you’ll learn how businesses are structured and how businesses are regulated both internally and externally. You’ll look at practical areas such as data protection, fraud, health and safety, and information security, and how these link to compliance obligations for businesses. The module also covers commercial agreements, employment rights and responsibilities, and workplace regulations, giving you an understanding of the underlying legal context for business practices. 

Big Data and AI specialismCertHE Business

By combining business fundamentals with digital literacy, you’ll prepare for a career path in business, specialising in big data and AI, building a core knowledge in business in the big data and AI industries, alongside practical insights into how big data and AI businesses operate in the real world.

Big Data Essentials (30 credits)
The Big Data module is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the core principles, technologies, and applications that underpin big data systems, enabling students to gain the knowledge, understanding, and skills to explore how large-scale data is captured, stored, processed, analysed, and used for AI and machine learning across various industries. This module will examine different aspects of big data by exploring key topics such as data sources and types, distributed computing, data processing frameworks like Hadoop and Spark, and the ethical considerations involved in the collection and use of massive datasets. This module will be delivered through a combination of delivery and activities, with opportunities to engage with accessible platforms and tools that demonstrate how big data solutions are designed and implemented in real-world contexts. 

AI essentials (30 credits)
The Artificial Intelligence Concepts and Applications module is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the core concepts, techniques, and applications of AI within modern digital systems, enabling them to gain the knowledge, understanding, and skills to explore how AI is developed, deployed, and impacts decision-making, automation, and user experiences across various industries. This module will explore different elements relating to AI technologies by looking at a variety of key areas including machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and the ethical and societal implications of AI. This module will be delivered through a combination of delivery and activities, with opportunities to engage with accessible tools and platforms that demonstrate how AI models are trained, evaluated, and applied in real-world contexts. 

Healthcare specialismCertHE Business

Suitable for those exploring the business side of healthcare, you’ll gain a clear understanding of business in healthcare, alongside practical insights into how healthcare businesses operate in the real world, while building the confidence to use digital tools and technologies that support modern practices.

Healthcare Management Context (30 credits)
Understanding the dynamic and complex environment of the healthcare sector requires a deep dive into the business and ethical structure that underpins the delivery of vital health services worldwide. The Healthcare Management Context module is specifically designed to provide a comprehensive and integrated understanding of the nonclinical aspects of the modern health sector. You’ll move beyond clinical practice to systematically explore the structure, functions, financing mechanisms, and core business principles that govern successful healthcare systems. 

Finance for Healthcare Management (30 credits)
This module introduces you to the fundamental principles of finance within the context of healthcare management – exploring key financial concepts, tools, and decision-making techniques used by healthcare professionals to ensure effective resource allocation, budgeting, and financial sustainability. You’ll develop an understanding of Excel, financial statements, and performance metrics specific to healthcare organisations. 

How will you study

Contact hours

Students will be required to undertake approximately 25 hours of learning per week, which may include completing online activities, watching videos, reading journal articles and books, and preparing a variety of innovative assessments which will enhance students' employability. 

Each week, students will have one hour of contact with their module leader and one hour of contact with their Academic Skills Tutor for additional support.

There will also be optional in-centre experiential learning days held at BPP London East.

Learning materials

All required learning materials are provided online as part of the course fee. This reflects modern working practices and minimises our environmental impact. Print on demand versions are available for students with specific learning needs.  


Types of assessment

A variety of innovative assessments which will enhance employability. The course aims to enhance students’ skills in the digital business world; most assessments would ensure they develop contemporary digital and employability skills.. 

BPP University offers flexibility in how these assessments are undertaken, and the programmes will utilise online tools where available to deliver assessments. On occasion, some assessments may require attendance at a physical location.
